The Word
Through the prophet Hosea, God made a startling statement: My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:2). Defeat of every kind, poverty, sickness, failures in relationships, harassments by demons, even premature death, is suffered by God’s people simply because they don’t know better.
Jesus said it this way: You will know the truth and the truth will set you free (John 8:32). The fact that Jesus provided redemption is not enough to make a difference in people’s lives. That’s because it’s not just the truth – it’s knowing the truth, that sets people free.
Paul wrote to the Colossians that Jesus canceled the written code with its regulations that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (Colossians 2:14-15).
No other verses better describes the message of Jubilee. The indictment of your sins, that legal, spiritual document that sealed your fate as a sinner and empowered the devil over your life, was canceled through the blood of Jesus. By so doing, Jesus defeated the devil decisively and took away his legal right to harm you. The mortgage note on your life was paid off!
What a tragedy it is that Christians are enslaved by chains that cannot hold them, held in prisons whose doors have been busted open, and tormented by demons who have been decisively defeated more than 2000 years ago.
The answer to this, of course, is in teaching and proclaiming the Word. That’s what brings revelation and enables people to live the free, abundant lives Jesus intended for them to live.
